Biography

My love for painting stems from coming from an artistic family. As a child my mother instilled in me an artistic practice that provided not only a way to provide an escape in stressful times, but also to express and cultivate my imagination. I graduated with a BFA from James Madison University in 2016 and have shown in several fine art gallery settings. Fall 2017 I had the honor of being named Artist of the Year with the Crystal Chalice Awards. During the summer of 2017 and 2018 I continued my education with the Vienna Academy for Visionary Art, and even further at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors. I am exploring all the different paths open to me, and while I’m excited to see where I go I am thoroughly enjoying the journey.

Artist Statement

My paintings are prayers, and have been ever since childhood. My mother gave me art as a way of creating a better world; I didn't understand art's ability to ripple into the universe until I started live painting and experiencing it. When people hear the prayer art in their soul, it awakens them to their true nature and tears their walls down.

I create with whatever is at hand, and alternate between acrylic and oil paintings as my primary mediums. The compositions of my paintings are a slow build in form and meaning. I normally create abstractness, then find patterns, which allows me to render forms until the painting and I have finished our conversation. Through visual storytelling I share my vision of the world: unity, and love for the ground we walk on, the water we drink, and the beings we meet; I create a space where knowledge is freely shared, rather than hoarded for a “deserving” few.

As a small child, I was terrified of bees, and my mom told me to sing to them. She said that they’re much more afraid of me than I am of them, so if I’m gentle with them, we can live in harmony. That idea opened my eyes, and compelled me to be a voice for the spirits who can’t speak: the spirits of the forest, the water, and the creatures. My highest mission as an artist is to show that everything in this life is artistry, and to create a sense of wonder at the infinite beauty of our existence. The further along I wander on this meandering path, the more I see, and the less I know; the more I experience, the more I want everyone to see it with me.
